Derek Cornell
Assistant Director
Derek joins the Southside Prospects Staff as an assistant director for the 2019 summer season. Derek will be heavily involved in the recruiting/evaluating process, development of athletes, and day-to-day operations of the club. With his background as the St. Louis PBR Scouting Director, he has vast knowledge of the recruitment process throughout the Midwest. Derek will be a huge asset to our club moving forward!
Derek is entering his third year of coaching and instructing. He spent one season as an Assistant Coach at Parkway South High School and one season as an Assistant Coach for the Rawlings Prospects 15u Scout Team. Derek played collegiately at the University of Central Missouri as an outfielder and middle infielder. In the 2016 season, he helped lead the Mules to the Division II College World Series, finishing the 4th ranked school in the nation. He finished with a career .312 batting average. Derek spent two seasons playing with the Moose Jaw Miller Express of the Western Major Baseball League, a collegiate summer league. In the summer of 2015, he was named Moose Jaw Miller Express Most Valuable Player. Derek then signed to play professionally overseas, winning a French National Championship with the Rouen Huskies. From there, he signed with the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League.
